In this blog post, I would like to talk about an inspirational chess person, WIM Alexey Root. For your info, 'WIM' stands for Woman International Master. She is the 1989 US Women's Chess Champion and also teaches chess classes at The Univeristy of Texas at Dallas. She has done a lot for the chess community, including editing my "Queen for a Day: The Girl's Guide To Chess Mastery" book. I am very fortunate that she edited my book. In fact, Alexey has written seven chess books herself, available on Amazon.com.
Here are the names of all seven of her books:
1) Read, Write, Checkmate: Enrich Literacy with Chess Activities
2) Children and Chess: A Guide for Educators
3) The Living Chess Game: The Fine Arts Activities for Kids 9-14
4) Thinking with Chess: Teaching Children Ages 5-14
5) People, Places, Checkmates: Teaching Social Studies with Chess
6) Prepare With Chess Strategy
7) Science, Math, Checkmate: 32 Chess Activities for Inquiry and Problem Solving
If you know any other inspirational chess people you want me to write about, please let me know!
My three teammates and I WON THE 2021 US Amateur's West TEAM CHESS TOURNAMENT YESTERDAY!!! We were the #1 seed in the Under 1800 section. There was 40 teams in our section. After two long days of playing six rounds, WE WON THE TOURNAMENT with 5 out of 6 points. I played on board one. Five of my opponents were rated above 1800, which means tough opponents. In one of the rounds, I drew against a National Master rated 2331.
Our team name was called, "100% Lady Chess moves".
Even though chess is a male dominated game, LADIES AND WOMEN PLAY CHESS WELL!!
